General Questions
Are your models fully assembled?
Yes, our models are fully assembled. The only exceptions being some of our model yacht range. These are packed and shipped fully rigged but with the mast down for easier transport. All you need to do is position the mast and boom and tighten the rigging.

Construction Questions
How are your models made?
Each of our models is built from scratch by vastly experienced master craftsmen, they are not made from any kind of kit. They are built to scale using original plans or pictures. They are carefully, individually constructed from scratch, using the plank-on-frame method just like the original boat. Each piece of timber is individually cut and applied by hand. It is painstaking work taking sometimes hundreds of hours to achieve the desired detail and finish. Epoxy glues are used to ensure our models will not crack or split in variable climatic conditions. Fittings are typically brass or chromed brass. Please see the construction process page for more details.
What woods are used to build your models?
Typically you’ll see ebony, rosewood, blackwood, teak, mahogany, jackwood and sycamore. That is, the highest quality rare timbers are used to construct all of our wooden model boats. They are subjected to specific seasoning procedures to ensure that models will withstand severe climate changes and will never warp or split.

How is shipping processed?

What happens if the model I want is sold out?
Because of the amount of man hours required to build each model, they are produced in relatively small numbers, on occasion we may sell out of a particular model before our new stock arrives. In this instance we can reserve one specifically for you from our next production run. A 20% deposit is required to secure your model with the balance due when your model is ready to ship to you. Alternatively you can ask for notification when the new stock arrives.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is free for orders shipped to addresses within Australia
How are models packed?
Most of our models are packed completely encased in a custom moulded two piece Styrofoam shell within a sturdy cardboard box. It has been found to be the safest most secure method of ensuring your new model arrives intact. Tall ships are secured within a complete timber frame which is then placed inside a sturdy box.
What do I do if my model arrives damaged?
In the event that your model arrives damaged, it is your responsibility to notify us within 5 days after you receive your delivery. Please email admin@classicmaritimereplicas.com.au or call 02 9918 8447 and we will do everything possible to rectify the situation.
Do you ship internationally?
We are happy to accommodate shipping worldwide, but unfortunately it’s not free (our free shipping only applies to Australia). International buyers are responsible for payment of all customs duties and fees in your country. For a quote, please contact for more details.

Looking after your new model
How can I protect my model ship from dust?
We strongly suggest you purchase a model ship display case to help preserve the integrity of your investment (especially if you’ve purchased a model sailboat). This will keep your model in museum-quality condition and increase the overall value of your model ship.
How do I clean my model ship?
Our model ships are very intricate and delicate, and can be easily damaged by improper cleaning. We suggest careful use of canned compressed air to lightly blow away dust particles. These are available from us for you to purchase.

Please do not hesitate to contact us via email: info@classicmaritimereplicas.com.au or phone (02) 9918 8447 if you have any questions not answered here.
